UPTOWN MAGAZINE JULY 2009
UPTOWN’S GUIDE TO WHAT’S ON AT GALLERIES IN SCOTLAND
Capital
Talent
JEMMA Derbyshire is an
emerging Scottish painter
who graduated from Edinburgh
College of Art in July 2008 and
continues to live and work in
Edinburgh. Since graduating she has
exhibited widely throughout Scotland
with works displayed in notable
galleries such as The Billcliffe Gallery in
Glasgow and both the Leith Gallery and
Open Eye in Edinburgh.
As predominantly a landscape painter
her work is driven by the experience of
colour and light. Her works are
energetic and present, expressing a
love of paint. She aims for each piece
to be earthed and strong, exploring the
transience of colour and light offered
to her by the landscape.
Jemma exhibited at StudioArt,
Stockbridge, Edinburgh in June with a
new body of work following a month’s
research trip in Europe with fellow
artist Antonia Gallacher.
She will also be showing at The Leith
Gallery, Edinburgh, from 4th July.
